9 Boats started course 1 in reverse after a 15 minute postponement waiting for wind. The group did get off for a good start, but 10 minutes later, that North wind really petered out and it took awhile for something, maybe south, maybe west to replace it. By the time the boats were at the East Chop can 23a, most were clamoring for some room to get around safely. That is, except for Apres who was clear ahead at the can and for the rest of the race, shortened to one time around. When there was wind, there was no denying the pleasant conditions. But the calms, with the current carrying the boats, found crews scurrying to fend off the boats who were lacking way and steering. Holmes Holers are used to the frustration of light air races and by now take them in stride...let the chips fall where they may.
Apres earns a second cup for 2024 handily, but most of the positions were established by mere seconds. Go figure.
The HHSA race schedule takes a break to allow participation in the SAIL MV Vineyard Cup race. No Thursday race and Next Saturday and Sunday will be the VC races. All are urged to join the fun and support the sailing education that Sail MV provides.
