Four boats started - Penelope, Silhouette, Tamu, and a visitor "Devine" (a Catalina 28). Wind was SE 4-6 ..so start was off West Chop to N6 with course 0 in reverse. There was a decent breeze for a good beat to N6,... and then the wind moved from variable to calm. An ebbing tide along the East Chop shore helped to slowly carry the intrepid fleet down the shore. Course was shortened to C23A, yet, alas, only Penelope managed to finish. A flooding sound tide and calm wind conditions near C23A was too much for Tamu, Silhouette, and Devine to overcome...resulting in DNF for them. It was, however, a wonderful motor back to the harbor through calm waters and a beautiful evening sky....and of course a wonderful meal and conversation back at VHYC.
Cheers, Tom.
We're gearing up for the 2022 Moffett Race...Sept. 10th If you didn't take advantage of the discount by registering while paying your HHSA dues, you should sign in and pay up now. Current forecast is for near perfect conditions for a 20 mile race in the Vineyard Sound to celebrate the end of another great Vineyard summer of sailing. Here's the link...go there even if you paid jointly with the HHSA Dues. Will take just 3 minutes. 45th year, never postponed nor cancelled. Intrepid sailors in boats of every description...one class, only one winner. Where else?
All the best, Roger.
