Jim Dixon passed away on Monday.

Ahoy!

We received the following email from Jim Dixon's daughter which I'm forwarding to the membership.  Jim was a great addition to HHSA and his regular attendance at the races with At Last, the Alerion 28, presented some great competition for the fleet.   His good humored and steadfast improvements to his boat and skills demonstrated what the essential Holmes Hole sailor would look like.   We will be sailing the Sunday, June 20th race in Jim's Memory.  Hopefully there will be a good turn out, especially by the remaining Alerions.  Email addresses for Donna and his two daughters are noted below if you care to send a message.

All the best,  Roger.

I am writing with the sad news that my dad, Jim Dixon, passed away last night.  Surrounded by his family, he took down his sail for the last time and brought his boat in to safe harbor. Since his diagnosis with pancreatic cancer in December 2019, Jim has been the model patient, following every instruction to the letter, pushing himself to do everything he was asked to do.  With his willingness to fight, he bought himself a summer up in Martha's Vineyard that we never imagined we'd get.  But with that summer of borrowed time, we got greedy and dared hope for another.  He fought valiantly until the illness overwhelmed him and he is now at peace.

May the wind be ever at his back.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Sail MV (SailMV.org) or Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (giving.mskcc.org).  Sail MV is a non-profit marine environmental organization, sustainability advocate and educator on the island of Martha's Vineyard that also provides low cost sailing lessons to children on the island.

We will be in touch regarding information about a wake and funeral. If you are unable, uncomfortable or your covid cautiousness/precautions preclude you from coming, please know we understand and feel loved from a (social) distance!

Love,
Chrissy, Jennifer & Donna
