Ahoy!
14 regular racers started this evening and Five H 12s started their shortened course. The wind did not show with any help and only 7 finished the shortened course at East Chop and the H 12's race was abandoned. The lack of wind, however, was not the only story. Suffice it to say, "You had to be there." 7 boats were indeed at the finish line, for all intent and purposes (save scoring the race), at the same time. After Starfish finished up...taking about 15 minutes to traverse the last 100 feet, the next 4 boats, with no wind also struggled to cross the line. The remaining three boats got a boost from the southwest and charged the line with big hopes. Gloria did not have the momentum and stalled with no rights, giving way to several others who were drifting, barely under control, with no discernible plan. Altius then drove through the fleet to finish before all the other stalled boats and secured second to Starfish. Trinity also rode that breeze to completion and gets a third. This was too much for the commodore who, with only 20 feet to go, joined the half of the fleet that dropped out . So frustrating.
Next race: Sunday, 1:00 PM warning. Will it be no wind, or too much? Show up and find out.
All the best, Roger.
