Ahoy!

Today's Sound race underwent a course change because of light winds.  Course #2 was enough of the sound for most as the 5-8 knot breeze barely moved the fleet any faster than the flooding tide carried the boats eastward.  None the less, 16 boats finished up in good time.   Serving on the committee boat, Tim Gollin, took the time of his own boat, Scheggia sailed by his friends/crew.  They would have scored a second if I could count their race, but the rule established years ago prevents that.  The rule came about after an inequity was discovered in the season's scoring resulting from a committee boat volunteer having missed a race while his competitor didn't have a lost race because of committee boat service and ended with a better score.  The result is the rule that all season's award contenders must serve on the committee boat taking a DNC for that race.  We encourage skippers to arrange to have their boats on the course anyway as everyone agrees "the more the merrier" but the race will be scored as a DNC.  The hard feelings generated by the close season's scoring back then has been and will be avoided in the future thanks to the rule.

Sorry for the late report.  The Nonsuch Silhouette was confused with 2 or 3 other Nonsuch boats out sailing in the area and we lost track of her.  She had to drop out after running her engines to avoid the ferry early in the race and it took until now to clarify what happened to her.

Apres and Heimkehr were the cup winners today.

Next race is Thursday evening.  We are moving the start time up an hour to 5:00 PM to make sure the great crew at the VHYC snack bar can finish up before dark.

Then on Sunday, Sept. 3rd, the final chance to better your score in two harbor races will end the HHSA 2017 season.
