Ahoy!
There were high expectations for this evening's race and 16 boats, one from Falmouth, across the sound showed up for the challenge. The forecast wasn't too encouraging but it is the end of August and we want to go sailboat racing. Charlie on the Vig was game and went ahead and started both classes on time. Artful Dodger cranked it up and headed back to Falmouth while everyone set out on what turned out to be scavenger hunt for wind, or anything resembling it. Remarkably everyone made it to Nun 6 which actually was to weather but things went south, or southeast or northeast from there. Two more dropped out but 13 stuck with it towards East Chop. Charlie set up the finish line there and did in fact finish the 5 most blessed boats by 7:20. Nervous about the Vigilant having no lights he abandoned the line and proceeded to identify the boats still on the course. He awarded each a liberal time which placed them in order at the bottom of the scoring sheet. The race officer concurred that each boat still on the course deserved a finish time having made every effort to complete the race and the time awarded was as reasonable as would be expected given the fluky wind. The entire race will not be included in future ratings' calculations in fear it would freeze up the computer. The award for most fish caught during the race goes to the crew on Zenith. Gloria's crew promised not to protest the maneuver which clearly was being used to some how get the fish to pull Zenith ahead while no wind was apparent in either boat's sails!
Cups go to Tango and Penelope!
Sunday's race is 1:00 PM and is scheduled as a sound race. If wind isn't sufficient enough, watch for a Harbor course number. Next Thursday is the last Thursday race of the season and will start an hour earlier, at 5:00 PM. Hopefully we'll get back for dinner with the sun still up.
If you haven't already, sign up for the Moffett race sooner rather than later...things get busy at this time of year. The HHSA website will take you to the registration form. If you took advantage of the joint HHSA/Moffett registration deal for $90, you should be listed as registered. Check the current registrants list if you can't remember to make sure you are listed.
Lisa and John Stout are again hosting the HHSA annual awards dinner and are happy to hear what you intend to bring for dinner.
