Ahoy! 3 boats took on the 18 knot winds with gusts into the 30s to duke it out around the harbor on Course #1 with a windward starting leg. The new members Karena and Erik Hammarlund brought out "Maitland", a cold molded Buzzard's Bay 25 named after Mait Edey for their HHSA debut. In the running with their starting, temporary rating, they corrected to 3rd place just 33 seconds behind Silhouette with Tamu winning the cup. I think I saw Penelope on the course for the start when the winds were recorded over 20, but she was returning to the harbor.
A correction to my scoring of the Thursday evening season's opener doesn't change the winner, but does adjust some of the finishing places. I overlooked setting the course distance correctly to reflect the windward starting leg and the correction helps the slower rated boats. Rather than go over the changes, I'll add the results below and on the website.
Finally a shout out to the HHSA sailors that sailed the Edgartown Yacht Club's round the island race. Steve Besse sailing Apres won her class #2, Eric Widra sailing Campana finished 3rd in class #3, Frank Sutula in Class #4 finished 3rd with Zebra, Bill Brossi sailing Shannon to a win and Mike Powers sailing Artful Dodger to second in class #5. It was a long day, but the weather was crystal clear and the fleet finished the entire course for the first time in years.
