Ahoy!
Strong winds in the high teens with gusts in the mid to upper twenties did not dissuade 3 members from the Thursday Evening triangle. A little confusion concerning rounding of Nun 6 after the .5 mile windward starting leg was straightened out and may or may not have determined Mo Flam's strong lead over the others. Either way the sail was followed up with a steak dinner at the VHYC and the hearty finishers reveled in their accomplishment...as well they should have. Several others were reading the reports of 30 knot gusts and opted to sit it out.
Sunday will be the one remaining rendezvous race left on the schedule...a run to Tarpaulin Cove. The 11:00 AM warning signal will start the entire fleet together, no pursuit start this year. The finish will be at the large mooring ball as the Can has been removed. If the winds fail to show up, the race could be moved to a harbor course...watch for signals on the committee boat.
Moffett Race registration continues. Remember that even if you have prepaid the entry fee together with your HHSA dues, (total $140), you need to go to the website and fill out the form to register. Moffett Fun Fact: For years the race was scheduled for the third week in September, hoping for strong winds. Then it was moved to the weekend after labor day with the hope of attracting more seasonal Vineyarders to join in. The change of date didn't seem to affect the winds and may have allowed a few summer folks to stick around for the event. There has often been a Falmouth contingent that comes over to join in and this year the skipper of the Artful Dodger, Mike Powers, is recruiting a new set who want to see what a race of 110 years of boat designs can look like.
All the best, Roger.
