Patience often pays off. At least it did today for the H 12 Fleet. When we found the Harbor without any wind whatsoever at 12 noon, we delayed the 1:05 start for an hour, and we were rewarded handsomely. The wind filled in from the Southwest, the sun came out, seven Herreshoff's showed up on the starting line, and we all had a glorious sail on a windward-leeward, twice around course, on the Eastville side of the Harbor. Using his own boat, Charlie Felder was good enough to set our line, and officiate our race. Thank you Charlie. All the more, thank you Charlie for seeing to it that we had sunshine and a lovely breeze.
The Harbor was quite glorious, a sailors dream. The Holmes Hole regulars started on time at 1:05, a total of seven H 12's made showed up at the line for our delayed start at 2:10, and Vineyard Haven Yacht Club had their fleet of Sonars out in competition, with colorful spinnakers driving the boats down their course.
We welcome Cinnamon Girl to the H-12 Fleet, owned by Kate Patterson and Gina Hough.
I am delighted to see that the sailing skills of the entire H 12 has visibly improved: sail shape, course strategy, and boat speed are all better. We are succeeding in our mission to help "everyone" (!) to become a better sailor by helping each other, and, most importantly of all, to have fun. And great fun today, it was!
The order of finish was:
Leap of Faith
Patch of Green
Whirlwind
Osprey
Providence
Cinnamon
The next race is on Thursday, July 7th.
Best to all.
Phil Hale
Vineyard Haven Harbor H 12 Fleet Captain
