A stunningly beautiful Vineyard Sunday brought out seven H-12's to the starting line for a second week in a row. The fleet cuts a beautiful picture of classical New England sailing for all those around and about the Harbor to enjoy. And, each week, the level of sailing gets better, and the races are getting pleasantly more interesting and "close". We will look forward to more blackboard sessions for those who would enjoy them. We had anticipated a steady southwest wind when the course was set, but, naturally (!) nature fooled us just a bit and we ended up with a steady southeast sea breeze. The wind was delightful for our harbor sail, however, we lost the challenging windward leg we had anticipated and the added opportunities for out-performance that go with upwind sailing. Instead, we were pretty much on exhilarating reaches the entire afternoon as we sailed twice around one of our windward/leeward courses. That left us with little lead changes and favored those who gained an early advantage with good starts. But that is clearly beside the point. A delightful sail it was and about as picturesque as a fleet gets, particularly each time the fleet rounded Red No. 6 in mid-harbor.
The order of finish was:
Leap of Faith Moon Shadow Whirlwind Bazinga Sweet Pea Providence Cinnamon Girl
Enjoy the week. Best.
Phil H 12 Fleet Captain.
