Ahoy -
7 boats got the word of the Tarpaulin Cove Rendezvous-Day course change to a 2 PM start of course #1.
The wind which wasn't supposed to build until the afternoon, came early and then died down by 3 O'Clock.
None the less, the race which started at Nun 6 with a reach in the easterly 12 knot breeze, and headed to Nun 4
was enjoyed by all. At that West Chop point the strong flooding tide bashed into the east winds to whip up some
choppy business that West Chop is known for. The favorable tide helped the windward bound boats all over-stand
on the way to Can 23a. But on the second time around, most learned from their mistake and sailed a more direct course.
Gloria won the cup. The scoring order indicates that the current's work at reducing actual sailed distance helped the
usually slower boats...one of several glitches in the world of performance handicap racing. Of course, a foul current would
have the opposite effect, helping the faster boats.
Thursday's race is August's first. We are just about half done with the summer already.
All the best, Roger.
