HHSA - tune-up race this Sunday - 1:05 PM Start

Ahoy!

The Holmes Hole Sailing Association has finalized its plans with the VHYC concerning committee boat service for the season.  On Thursday evenings, a committee boat will be provided to both start and finish the races around the HHSA traditional triangle.  For Sunday races, the committee boat will start the races and signal the course but each contender will be required to report their finish time as they pass within 50 Feet of Nun 6 between the buoy and Yacht Club.  As in previous years, a starting line will be set ½ mile north of Nun 6 on days when the wind is out of the south to enable a windward start and first leg.  Otherwise, the line will be between the committee boat and Nun 6.  Course and direction will be signaled by the committee boat and a P or S will indicate a Port or Starboard rounding of Nun 6.  The entire fleet will race as one Division with one start and one first place coffee cup!

Pursuit start Rendezvous Sunday races will require a self regulated start using the start times posted via email on the day prior.  Finish scores are determined by finish position at the destination buoy.  Contenders are to finish within 15 feet of the buoy, either side. Please report your finish time and position and the names of the boat just ahead and just astern of you.  If the Commodore or other designated person in charge indicates a change of course to a harbor triangle due to adverse weather, the fleet will honor start at 11:00 AM at Nun 6 and each contender will report their finish time.

Members are invited to gather after the Thursday evening races at Rocco's pizza for a take out snack observing proper social distancing guidelines.

All indications are that the 2020 HHSA season will be great fun as usual and although registrations are off, as could be expected during a world wide pandemic, a strong core of regular sailors will continue regardless.  We hope for a safe season with zero cases of Covid-19 among our members and nobody unexpectedly over-board!

This Sunday, the annual Tune-up race will start a 1:05 PM and will follow a course determined as appropriate for the weather at the time of start.  Please report your finish times in a timely manner so results can be calculated and reported as soon as possible.

    Hope to see you there.

    Roger
