Ahoy!
8 boats raced across the sound to Falmouth and back in race made longer than it's 10.6 miles by the current and wind directly out of the South. Altius was thinking of coming, but the wind was strong at the start and even caused some to reef, and Alan headed for the barn. The wind moderated substantially and the beat back required working directly into a falling current to gain enough to the east to make the nun 4 and entrance to the harbor. The results show the advantage of faster boats not spending so much time in the sound fighting foul currents. The dead downwind leg from N6 to R14 at Green Pond was approached differently by each boat. From the vantage point on Gloria at the rear there was much discussion on the boat marked with comments like: " Where are they going?" and "Why are they heading so high? " and Now what are they doing". I had to check my gps again and again but because some were trying reaching courses to either side and others going straight downwind wing and wing, depending on the lead boats to show the way was not exactly the best idea.
Eagle won the cup. Two positions were notable because of the close corrected time at finish: Second place was won by
Artful Dodger, just 10 seconds ahead of Trinity. Penelope secured 6th place with just second over Maitland.
I'm including current overall standings now that July racing is in the can and we are halfway through the season. You don't want to miss too many races as you chances for the perfect conditions for your boat increase every time you start.
