Ahoy!
It was not the perfect day HHSA sailors have become used to. The Tarpaulin race was called because of
expected showers and a standard Sunday race was set for Course 1 in reverse for the afternoon but the wind quit and the course was shortened to once around. All the fleet finished but pretty much under drifting conditions. The start had wind which caught a couple of boats over early. One returned, the other did not. Artful Dodger won...somehow not letting his heavy weight slow him down.
Here is Rawson's report with more pictures. Note the wind on the water at start vs. at the finish.

Ahoy Roger!
We had an interesting afternoon of racing today. Eight boats made their way out to the line intending to sail a Course 1 in reverse. The breeze started Southerly and oscillated between S/SW. Apologies to the fleet from the Race Committee for the lopsided line this afternoon. Penelope and Zebra were both about a half boat length over the line at the start, which I communicated via radio on channel 73. Penelope circled back to clear the line. I was on my own for the start and did not have the X flag rigged up, So, my apologies to the Zebra crew for any confusion.
After the start, the fleet made their way up to Buoy 6 and then out to East Chop, where the wind slowly died, bringing the fleet to a crawl on the reach leg and I received appeals soon after to shorten the course to 1 lap. I displayed the S flag with 2 horns to signal the course change and communicated via radio that we'd be switching to 1 lap. All 8 boats made it across the finish line within 30 minutes of one another. All things considered, despite the breeze, it was a nice day to be out on the water and I hope everyone enjoyed their sail.
Wishing everyone a great week, and will look forward to seeing you all again (hopefully with some more breeze) on Thursday!
