Ahoy!

9 Boats raced today, all finishing the 7 mile Reversed Course #2 with windward starting leg in good time.   The 1:00 PM warning signal was postponed to 1:35 as the race committee boat, set up for a SW wind waited for the wind to show up.  It did show with instant strength that took many of the racers by surprise.  Until the wall of SW wind hit the fleet most were sailing around in NW, N, and NE feather light breezes of 3-5 knots wondering if there was any hope for a decent race at all.   The scramble at the start was a thing to behold as the nine starters watched the postponement flag signaled down and 5 minute sequence run through in what seemed like 2 minutes.  The direction of rounding for Nun 6 was apparently only signaled via radio, so some rounded incorrectly.  The Race Committee has decided to accept the times for all the boats regardless of direction of rounding at that mark.  The sloppy sound was no trouble for Altius this time as Alan Wilson captured the cup, edging out perennial second place finisher Artful Dodger by just 13 seconds.

Next race is Thursday Evening, 5:00 PM warning signal.

Please don't forget to register for this year's Jewett Bowl, to be sailed on Saturday, August 6.  To encourage participation by HHSA members, HHSA, will pay the $25 registration fee.  To register, go to the following link.

When prompted, HHSA members who are not VHYC members should use the following coupon code JBHH2022 at checkout and HHSA will pay the $25 registration fee.  VHYC members should use their club charge numbers (which will result in no charge to either the member or HHSA).

Looking forward to a great turnout this year for this year's Jewett.  Frank Jewett, an olympic sailor and very active in the VHYC, was instrumental in the 1976 founding of the HHSA.  His leadership in starting group as a counter to the cut throat one design sailing of the club at the time brought great opportunities for those, maybe less competitive, who had all sorts of designs of sailboats, to participate in this great sport.  The HHSA seasonal award, The Jewett Cup, is named in honor of Frank as is the VHYC's Jewett Bowl.  The cooperation between the HHSA and the VHYC is rare but is strong thanks to those that belong to both groups and the sporting spirit that both organizations promote.

All the Best,  Roger.
