Q. What was the current really doing along the Eastville shoreline?
I wanted to stay out of the current coming around East Chop and flowing toward
West Chop; in the end, I felt I took way too many tacks to stay along Eastville.

at least 2 minutes off course……

A. I found the current was outbound along East Chop, but not enough to warrant lots
of tacks. I tried to maintain one port tack as long as possible along the shore, caught

a bit of a lift which often happens, and then went for the mark. In my boat the fewer
tacks the better generally. Happily, we avoided the ferry.
